How Joaquin Phoenix plays a quadriplegic artist

Joaquin Phoenix plays a quadriplegic artist in the film Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on FootThe film is being shown at the Sundance Film festival this weekend!

Here is an excerpt from an interview:

"I asked some of the patients, "Why do you think he moves like that?" Some said, "It's to avoid bed sores, so he's changing (position) to get blood flow." But then the head of occupational therapy, who had been at Rancho for years, said, "He's in a lot of pain." So I thought that was really telling, because I had this assumption that you don't feel anything."

As therapists and healthcare providers, we sometimes forget the knowledge we have in our areas of specialty and take for granted is often puzzling to others.  Sharing that knowledge is fabulous as this OT did here.

We are looking forward to seeing the film--It will be out in May 2018.
